Collecting things, collecting moments in time

I always loved collecting things. I collected stamps, postcards and dried leaves as a child. Design magazines when I started working and now vintage objects, furniture and old books. Collecting is like making the things that matter and you love even more special. Is a part of yourself and your ongoing story. They are the things that give you a sense of authenticity and uniqueness. You hold all the layers that have been added to them. Through your eyes, they are still alive. Since we moved to our current home I have all of the things that I love open, in shelves, cabinets, bookcases and window sills.

I still remember as I was putting all the glasses on the open shelves, I said to my husband, “ they are so fragile, I am afraid they will break”.

“ So we are”, he replied to me and since then I keep reminding myself that we are all fragile, impermanent and incomplete.

All these treasures are the things that make you curious about their owner. When I visit a friend’s house I like to ask about the things I can find around. Like random objects, art and books. It is like trying to understand, what is important for you or how you spend your time. There are some funny stories behind things I have collected. We have been to an antique fair with a friend a few months ago and we found a beautiful table. It was a gem, but we needed to take action in seconds. We were first and 2 other ladies were waiting in the queue till we made a decision. We said yes in seconds and the antique was ours. The ladies were not happy and the dealer was laughing, it was just a great moment of that day.

Holding all these objects is like a memory capsule. It is like being connected with places, people and all the things that made us enjoy this beautiful life for a minute.
